Disjecta is pleased to announce a new installation by Richmond, Virginia based artist, Johnston Foster. Monolith Drift will be a site specific work that converts the cavernous Disjecta space into the remains of an archaic, ancient culture executed and fabricated exclusively in detritus and recycled materials. Labyrinth-like walls and fragments of pyramid-like structures will fill the space along with monolithic objects inspired by colossal heads similar to those found on Easter Island and in Olmec culture. The finished results will ultimately be determined by the objects and materials found and foraged in neighborhoods around Disjecta's home in North Portland. This open-ended approach will allow for complexity, flexibility, and unexpected results and surprises.
